British experts will be teaching professional English to the cadets of LSUIA

The rector ofLviv State University of Internal Affairs, Roman Blahuta, met with representatives of the Institutional Support Foundation (UK), David Lewis and Jonathan Jackson, as well as the Rector of the University of York, Chris Cullwick.

They discussed the implementation stages of a pilot project focused on teaching professional English to LSUIA cadets.

Over the next few days, under the mentorship of British experts, the young men and women will acquire essential communication skills in a foreign language.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Roman Blahuta, Rector of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs.

"We are honored to have sincere individuals who support Ukraine, particularly its law enforcement system, during such challenging times. You have demonstrated true humanism and openness to cooperation. The training of Ukrainian police officers has not gone unnoticed. To effectively learn from the best practices of our British colleagues, a professional command of English is crucial. That is why we are jointly implementing this pilot project," stated Roman Blahuta.

Chris Cullwick, the Rector of the University of York, also joined the event via an online connection.

"After russia's full-scale invasion of Ukrainian territory, our mayor decided to recognize Lviv as a sister city of York. This gesture is not only friendly but also signifies a step towards cooperation. Your unique national culture has already become ingrained in the lives of local residents. Now we offer comprehensive support to Ukraine, including implementing of language initiatives for the youth. These initiatives are not only beneficial but also significantly contribute to the future development of your state and the strengthening of international relations," the speaker noted.

David Lewis, a representative of the International Police Association in London and one of the project lecturers, emphasized that the current training topics would encompass police ethics standards and the fight against corruption.

Seminar “Gender Studies: Interdisciplinary Research of Current Problems of Social Relations” was held at LvSUIA

Lviv State University of Internal Affairs held a scientific and practical seminar on gender equality.

LvSUIA agreed on cooperation with the Territorial Department of the Court Security Service in Lviv Region

Roman Blahuta, Rector of the University, and Volodymyr Semenyna, Head of the Territorial Department of the Court Security Service in Lviv Region, have signed a memorandum of cooperation today.

The parties agreed to work on joint scientific and practical research, discuss and implement its results.

The purpose of the memorandum is to exchange experience and best practices, as well as to establish cooperation on the professional training of court security personnel.

LvSUIA organized a round table discussion on harmonization of criminal and criminal procedural legislation of Ukraine

The event "Ukraine - EU: Issues of Harmonization of Criminal and Criminal Procedural Legislation" brought together representatives of higher education institutions, scientific institutions, law enforcement agencies, courts, advocacy, public organizations, postgraduate students and students.

The roundtable included two blocks of discussions. The first one was "Harmonization of Criminal Law of Ukraine and the EU: Roadmap". The discussion was moderated by Nataliya Lashchuk, Head of the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines at the Institute of Law.

The participants discussed the prospects for the development of criminal law in Ukraine in the context of the legislative work of the European Commission and touched upon the topic of cyber violence as one of the forms of domestic violence. In addition, they talked about the implementation of the principle of legal certainty in the draft Criminal Code of Ukraine and the criminal liability for human trafficking in the context of our state's international obligations.

During the second part of the event, scholars and practitioners shared their reflections on whether the harmonization of criminal procedural law between Ukraine and the EU can truly be achieved. The discussion was moderated by Professor Iryna Hloviuk from the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines at the Institute of Law.

Representatives of the European Parliament, the Supreme Court, the High Anti-Corruption Court, the National Institute for Strategic Studies, the State Inspection of Architecture and Urban Planning of Ukraine, the Nadvirna District Court in Ivano-Frankivsk region, and the Pavlohrad City District Court in Dnipropetrovsk region participated in the scientific-practical event.

During the discussion, the main aspects and ways of harmonizing criminal and criminal procedural legislation of Ukraine with European standards were identified.

LvSUIA cadets received awards for their participation in the special operation "West-2023"

The cadets of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, together with the National Guard and border guards, patrolled the area in the controlled zones of Transcarpathia.

More than 180 students of the university received letters of appreciation from the 27th and 94th Border Guard Detachments for high-quality and conscientious performance of their tasks while serving in joint border patrols.

The cadets served together with representatives of the Chop and Mukachevo detachments in shifts. They checked cars and drivers, inspected things for weapons, ammunition and dangerous items. In addition, they detained people trying to illegally cross the border.

During the special operation, LvSUIA cadets together with border guards exposed 35 offenders who tried to illegally cross the border and revealed the fact of illegal drug trafficking.

LvSUIA students organized an Environmental Day in Lviv

The event was held to draw the attention to the issue of environmental protection and respect for nature.

The initiative belongs to Sofiia Petriv and Sofiia Volkova, who study at the Law Institute of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs. Cadets and students of LvSUIA, school students, as well as other interested people joined the campaign.

During the event, the participants visited a composting station in Lviv. Young people learned about the process of converting organic waste into soil fertilizer, which is used as compost for urban flower beds. It showed how waste can be processed effectively and reduce the negative impact on the environment.

The campaign also included clean-ups in the Vynnyky and Lapayiv forestries, which were joined by university youth.

LvSUIA cadets participated in the Summer School for Investigation of Crimes Related to Human Trafficking

The event lasted for three days as part of a joint project of the OSCE Support Program for Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

On the first day, the cadets learned about the theoretical foundations, peculiarities of investigating human trafficking cases and opportunities for cooperation with other agencies.

Over the next few days, the participants practiced their skills in searching crime scenes, interviewing victims, including children, as well as providing basic psychological assistance.

Due to the Summer School, the participants had the opportunity to improve their qualifications and develop their skills in investigating crimes, study new legislation and learn best practices in combating human trafficking.

LvSUIA cadets supported the volunteer initiative to help Ukrainian soldiers

Cadets of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs once again joined to the weaving of camouflage nets for defenders. Young men and women joined the common cause together with the volunteers of the Polytech Brigade.

Soon, the woven nets will be transferred to the frontline to protect our soldiers and help them in the fight against the enemy.

“Break the silence”: LvSUIA cadets attended the premiere of a film about domestic violence during the war

Recently, the Lviv Film Center presented a documentary film with the symbolic title, "Break the Silence". Cadets of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs joined the screening of the film. It tells how the full-scale invasion of the russian federation affected the level of domestic violence in Ukraine.

The project is an insightful story about helping people who often avoid talking about their abuse because of pain and fear.

The project's heroes were professionals who support victims of domestic violence, including representatives of the Survivor Assistance Centers, the Hotline for Men, shelters and crisis rooms, and the Aurora online platform.

In addition, the film shows the work of the National Police employees, the public organization "La Strada-Ukraine" and the National Hotline for the prevention of domestic violence, human trafficking, and gender discrimination.

Representative of LvSUIA became a member of the Expert Council of Students of Higher Education Institutions

The head of the student self-government of the Institute of Law Bohdana Onyskiv will represent the interests of university youth.

She successfully passed the selection to the Expert Council under People's Deputy Yulia Hryshyna, as the Head of the subcommittee on higher education of the Committee on Education, Science and Innovation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This structure was created on the initiative of leading Ukrainian student self-government organizations. The Expert Council is designed to help young people in solving important issues in the field of education.

LvSUIA team won the regional Dynamo athletics competitions

The team of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs won the first place "Dynamіade-2023" in athletics. The championship was organized by the Lviv regional organization of Dynamo Sport Society.

Athletes of the university also won prizes in the individual championship. Volodymyr Korkishko, a second-year student of Faculty No. 2, won silver in the 400 m race. Maksym Shchuryk, a second-year student of Faculty No. 1, was third in the 100 m race.

Graduation ceremony for police officers was held in Lviv

Today, graduates of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs have received bachelor's degrees. Young officers will join the ranks of law enforcement officers in 14 regions, where they will work in the units of investigation, criminal police and preventive activities.

The event began with the solemn performance of the National Anthem of Ukraine. After that, the attendees observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen Ukrainian defenders.

Inna Yashchuk, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko.

"Today, the family of the National Police has been replenished with talented young people. This is a great event for you personally and your relatives, for whom you have become a source of pride by choosing the vocation of defenders of the Ukrainian people. The state and, first of all, those citizens who are still in the occupied territories are waiting for you. After the coming the of the police officers, Ukrainian history, power and law return there. Your energy, education, and inquisitiveness will contribute to the development of the law enforcement system according to the world's leading models," Inna Yashchuk said.

Maksym Hrytsayenko, the First Deputy Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, also addressed the youth. "Please accept my sincere congratulations on such a significant life step. You successfully graduated from the university and became highly qualified specialists, which the state needs in war times. I wish you good luck, inspiration, peaceful sky and Victory!", he emphasized.

Taras Sozanskyi, the Acting Rector of LvSUIA, congratulated the graduates and noted, "The state has a difficult situation, because we are at war. Tomorrow you and your colleagues will be able to serve and bring the Victory of Ukraine closer. Over the years, you have acquired enough knowledge and I am sure that you will use it with dignity."

The best graduates of the university received a number of awards. In particular, the Scholarship of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine named after Denys Monastyrskyi, awards and encouragement from the Lviv Regional Military Administration, the Lviv Regional Council, Lviv City Council and the Police in Lviv region.

LvSUIA cadets Anna Ilyina, Yuriy Sochyn and Mariia Prokopenko prepared a touching creative performance on the occasion of the event. They performed the composition "Ode to law enforcement officers".

The Priest of the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross of the Lord (UGCC) Fr. Volodymyr Kepych, and the Priest of the chapel of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin at LvSUIA Ivan Revutskyi, held an initiation for the graduates to serve the Law and the Ukrainian people and blessed them for a bright future.

A farewell ceremony with the university flag was also held.

At the end of the event, the young officers marched on the parade ground of their native university.

LvSUIA joined the “Books to Heroes” charity event

Cadets, students and employees of the university collected more than three hundred books for Ukraine's defenders, who are undergoing rehabilitation in Lviv hospitals. In addition, project participants wrote warm words of gratitude for the heroes on many book covers.

"We have already given some of the books to wounded soldiers to support their fighting spirit and thank them for their courage. These are purely Ukrainian publications. The list includes non-fiction, fiction and documentaries," Yuliana Litvinova, head of the Council of Cadet-Student Self-Government of LvSUIA, noted.

The "Books to Heroes" project was implemented at the initiative of the Department of Education, Science and Sports of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to the organizers, such an action will improve leisure time and speed up the recovery of Ukrainian defenders.

Graduates of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs joined the charity initiative in support of the Armed

Ahead of the graduation, the cadets of Faculty No. 2 organized an action to help Ukrainian soldiers. With the money raised, young law enforcement officers acquired a powerful generator and handed it over to the front line.

"One of our graduates is currently in the combat zone and is involved in special operations. Therefore, we decided to help the unit in which he serves," said Viktoriya Dovha, a student of Faculty No. 2.

This idea was supported by everyone who cared, so in just a few days it was possible to collect the required amount.

"Our young people have once again joined forces to help Ukrainian defenders at the front and ease their stay in extremely difficult military realities," noted the Dean of Faculty No. 2, Ihor Sydoruk.

He also said that cadets and employees of the university have repeatedly joined charity events and volunteering in support of the Armed Forces.

LvSUIA cadet became the prize-winner of the Ukrainian Armwrestling Championship

Vladyslav Bilyk, a first-year student of Faculty No. 1, won the "bronze" of the competition.

This year the championship was held in Lviv. The fights lasted for several days.

The winners were named in different age categories, among youth, adults and veterans.

Vladyslav Bilyk, a cadet of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs took the third place in left-handed wrestling. The young man competed in the 60 kg weight category.

We congratulate Vladyslav on this achievement and wish him more victories!

LvSUIA cadets met with explosives technicians

Vasyl Matviy and Volodymyr Vysochanskyi, employees of the Explosive Service Department of the Police in Lviv region, visited the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs.

They told young men and women about the main types of explosive devices and ammunition used by the invaders.

The Deputy Head of the Explosives Service Department of the Police in Lviv region, police lieutenant colonel Vasyl Matviy, acquainted the participants with the principles of searching for and disarming explosive objects and substances.

In addition, the cadets learned about practical cases of demining de-occupied territories.

In the second part of the event, cynologist Volodymyr Vysochanskyi told how service dogs are trained. And his four-legged assistant Watson found a hiding place with a suspicious package in a matter of minutes.

LvSUIA agreed on cooperation with the Youth Council at the Lviv Regional Military Administration

Today, the Rector of the university, Roman Blahuta, and the Head of the Youth Council at the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Bohdan Talatura, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. The document envisages the deepening of partnership in the educational and scientific spheres.

It is about implementing joint projects, holding round tables, trainings, seminars and master classes. As well as internships and employment of the best students at Lviv RMA.

"First Opportunity Academy" is a new project that we have launched recently. Students of the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs will be able to become its participants and undergo internships in the departments and offices of the Lviv Regional Military Administration," Bohdan Talatura said.

He also emphasized that students would have the opportunity to try themselves in various areas, including the IT.

It should be noted that the Youth Council at Lviv RMA was created two years ago to help young people realize themselves in the public sector.

Training on the main provisions of the anti-corruption legislation was conducted at LvSUIA

The university held a regional training on the main provisions of anti-corruption legislation (restrictions and prohibitions), as well as rules of ethical behavior. It was joined by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the National Police, Research Forensic Centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Territorial Medical Associations, and Regional Service Centers in Lviv, Volyn, Ternopil, and Rivne regions.

Roman Blahuta, LvSUIA Rector, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. "The issues that will be discussed today are important for the implementation of qualitative changes to the legislation on combating corruption at all levels. I wish everyone a fruitful discussion!", the Head of the university emphasized.

Anatoliy Fodchuk, Head of the Corruption Prevention Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, also welcomed the participants of the online meeting. "According to the new Anti-corruption program for 2023-2025, a whole set of measures is planned, which we must implement in order to overcome this negative phenomenon. In general, there is already a tendency to reduce the level of corruption in all state authorities. The training conducted on the basis of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs will contribute to the formation of zero tolerance and intolerance to corruption. This is the key to building a strong state that will take a worthy place on the world stage," Anatoliy Fodchuk noted.

Maryna Kohut, Coordinator of the NATO Building Integrity in Ukraine, spoke next. She noted that the goal of this initiative is to provide targeted support in the field of reducing corruption risks, implementing the principles and practices of good governance, as well as enriching individual knowledge and institutional capacity. "The NATO Building Integrity helps the security and defense sector of Ukraine to strengthen its moral culture and effectively reform anti-corruption legislation," the speaker noted.

The first topic of discussion concerned international and national approaches to building integrity for employees of the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It was highlighted by Alina Hryshchuk, Associate Professor at the Department of Administrative Law Disciplines of the Institute of Law.

Yuriy Lozynskyi, Associate Professor at this department, also joined the discussion. He presented a study on administrative responsibility for violations of the anti-corruption legislation of Ukraine. In addition, he outlined the peculiarities of the qualification of administrative offenses related to corruption in the field of official activity.

The next speaker was Oksana Horpyniuk, Associate Professor at the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines of the Institute of Law. She focused on the theoretical and practical principles of criminal liability for corruption offenses.

At the end of the event, Andriy Hodiak, Authorized Person for Anti-Corruption Activities at LvSUIA, focused on the issue of managing corruption risks in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In addition, he shared his experience of cooperation with business partners and emphasized some features of working with whistleblowers.

LvSUIA cadet won bronze at the All-Ukrainian competitions in athletics throwing

Oleksiy Navrotskyi, a first-year student of Faculty No. 1, became the prize-winner of the sports event.

The second stage of the Cup of Ukraine in athletics throwing in honor of the Olympic champions F. Melnyk and A. Bodnarchuk was held in the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi in the Khmelnytskyi region. The competition lasted for two days.

LvSUIA cadet Oleksiy Navrotskyi took third place among juniors in the shot put, weight 6 kg.

This is not the first achievement of a talented athlete. Previously, he became the champion of the Ternopil region and was among the prize-winners of all-Ukrainian shot put competitions.

At the end of last year, Oleksiy Navrotskyi was recognized as the best athlete of the Ternopil region.

A meeting with representatives of the EU Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine was held at LvSUIA

Yesterday, the Rector of the university, Roman Blahuta, met the Head of the EUAM Lviv Field Office, Hannelore Valier, and the Senior Adviser on General Policing, Michael Storm.

During the meeting, the results of cooperation were discussed and plans for the future were outlined.

The Rector thanked EUAM for organizing and conducting trainings on countering domestic and gender-based violence for law enforcement officers of the Lviv region and thematic seminars for cadets at the university.

Roman Blahuta invited the Mission's experts to speak at the scientific events that will take place this year at the university. In addition, he proposed to start training for police officers on the peculiarities of service in the de-occupied territories at LvSUIA.

The EUAM representatives emphasized that the implementation of such a comprehensive course for law enforcement officers is very urgent, so they expressed their readiness to support this initiative.

The Head of the EUAM Lviv Field Office noted that they are looking for an expert, who will be able to share the best practices of using a laser 3D scanner by law enforcement officers and conduct training on this topic. She also suggested organizing training for psychologists on communication with those who lost relatives as a result of the war.

At the end of the meeting, the Rector of the university, Roman Blahuta, emphasized that LvSUIA will continue its cooperation with the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine.
