Connection with practice

Scientific Activity at Lviv State University of Internal Affairs

Scientific activity at Lviv State University of Internal Affairs is based on two main components: fundamental and applied research. This approach complies with the requirements of the regulatory documents of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, which, first, stipulate the conduct of scientific research according to priority areas that require primary support, and second, emphasize strengthening the role of practice-oriented disciplines in the educational process for training specialists for the National Police of Ukraine.

At Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, scientific and methodological approaches are being developed to address urgent problems of law enforcement activities in the following areas:

  • combating general criminal offenses;
  • combating human trafficking;
  • studying the state of crime in Ukraine;
  • analytical control and monitoring of crime prevention effectiveness;
  • scientific evaluation of foreign experience in combating crime within the practice of law enforcement;
  • outlining ways to counter crime: legal, criminological, and forensic aspects;
  • developing concepts and programs for scientific research, scholarly literature, and methodological recommendations;
  • ensuring the training of highly qualified specialists for the operational units of the National Police of Ukraine.

In addition, one of the main areas of research activity at Lviv State University of Internal Affairs is cooperation with the practical units of law enforcement agencies.
Forms of such cooperation include: participation of law enforcement officers in scientific and practical events organized by the University; implementation of research projects commissioned by the practical units of the Main Departments of the National Police of Ukraine in the regions; and integration of research results into practical activities.

Each year, reports on the completion of research commissioned by practical units of law enforcement agencies and reports on the implementation of these results in practice are presented to the Academic Council of the University.
