LvSUIA organized a round table discussion on harmonization of criminal and criminal procedural legislation of Ukraine

The event "Ukraine - EU: Issues of Harmonization of Criminal and Criminal Procedural Legislation" brought together representatives of higher education institutions, scientific institutions, law enforcement agencies, courts, advocacy, public organizations, postgraduate students and students.

The roundtable included two blocks of discussions. The first one was "Harmonization of Criminal Law of Ukraine and the EU: Roadmap". The discussion was moderated by Nataliya Lashchuk, Head of the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines at the Institute of Law.

The participants discussed the prospects for the development of criminal law in Ukraine in the context of the legislative work of the European Commission and touched upon the topic of cyber violence as one of the forms of domestic violence. In addition, they talked about the implementation of the principle of legal certainty in the draft Criminal Code of Ukraine and the criminal liability for human trafficking in the context of our state's international obligations.

During the second part of the event, scholars and practitioners shared their reflections on whether the harmonization of criminal procedural law between Ukraine and the EU can truly be achieved. The discussion was moderated by Professor Iryna Hloviuk from the Department of Criminal Law Disciplines at the Institute of Law.

Representatives of the European Parliament, the Supreme Court, the High Anti-Corruption Court, the National Institute for Strategic Studies, the State Inspection of Architecture and Urban Planning of Ukraine, the Nadvirna District Court in Ivano-Frankivsk region, and the Pavlohrad City District Court in Dnipropetrovsk region participated in the scientific-practical event.

During the discussion, the main aspects and ways of harmonizing criminal and criminal procedural legislation of Ukraine with European standards were identified.
