The idea of creating the Museum of the Educational Institution of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Lviv arose long before December 23, 2005 – the time of creation of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, which became the legal successor of its predecessors (special police schools, the Police School, the Institute of Internal Affairs).
In the early 90’s of XX century the state-building process in Ukraine gave impetus to the realization of the idea of creating a museum in the law enforcement educational establishment, which became a higher educational institution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in 1993.
The initiator of the museum creation was the first rector of the Institute, Major General of Militia Viktor Regulsky, by whose order a museum was created on the territory of the Institute (26 Horodotska Street) in 1996-1998 in a specially built room on the ground floor. The opening took place in 1999 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Lviv Police School – the forerunner of the Institute.
This is the museum of historical and local lore. There are three halls on the area of 120 square meters.
The stock collection of the museum includes more than 2,000 items of various nature, the most rare and valuable are: flags of educational establishments of the Bodies of Internal Affairs that were located in Lviv, personal belongings of famous law enforcement officers of Lviv region (awards, uniforms, etc.), busts of the best police officers of Lviv region - N. Veryovka, I. Vovk, V. Khersonyuk, V. Sherstok, Yu. Sizov, V. Ukhanskiy.
In 14 exposition sections, not only the history of the educational institution is highlighted, but also the history of Lviv region militia (exhibits from the regional museum of the militia school were transferred to the museum in the early 2000s):

The materials of the museum are used by scientific and pedagogical workers, cadets and students in scientific research on the history of the state and law of Ukraine, the history of internal affairs bodies, forensic science, etc. For the significant contribution to the development of the Ukrainian museums, to the cause of national-patriotic education, on December 11, 2000, the Department of Culture of Lviv Regional State Administration granted the museum the title of “Narodnyy” (People’s).
Currently, the interior of the museum and its exhibits is being actively renovated, new modern stands and racks are being developed, and the design of the halls is being improved.
