The Department of Foreign Languages and Culture of Professional Speech was established in December 2016 in order to master the professional and communicative language competence of future law enforcement officers and specialists in legal, economic and psychological profile.
Achieving this goal involves the following practical tasks:
- formation of Ukrainian-language and foreign-language competencies, in particular the acquisition of language material (linguistic, sociolinguistic, discursive, pragmatic knowledge);
- expanding the vocabulary of commonly used, general scientific, general professional and special vocabulary for mastering by higher education applicants of speech at the professional, household and cultural levels;
- formation of psycholinguistic readiness and increase of motivation for educational and future professional activity in native and foreign languages.
Every year the department initiates the publication of a collection of scientific articles on methods of teaching foreign languages "Actual problems of teaching foreign languages for special purposes." Scientific and pedagogical workers take part in international, all-Ukrainian and university scientific and scientific-practical conferences, round tables, interdepartmental seminars; internships are held not only in higher education institutions in the region, but also abroad.
Traditionally, the best higher education applicants demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the Petro Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Contest, the Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Contest for Pupils and Students, as well as in the annual Contest for the Best Foreign Language Proficiency and Foreign Languages Quiz "Culture and traditions of the countries whose language is being studied ". There is a student-cadet scientific circle "Vivat Scientia", which has sections in Ukrainian and foreign languages. The result of its work is the annual All-Ukrainian scientific-practical conference of applicants for higher education in Ukrainian and foreign languages "Law. Communication. Society".
Scientific and pedagogical staff of the department carries out scientific, educational, methodical and organizational activities, participates in career guidance work of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs.
