The Department of Special Physical Training of the Faculty № 2 is an educational and scientific structural unit of the University, which provides educational, methodological, scientific, organizational, educational and sports and health work with cadets and students.
The department consists of 16 scientific and pedagogical workers, from them 1 - acting head of the department, 5 - associate professors, 4 - senior teachers, 6 – teachers, 3 - candidates of sciences in physical education and sports, 2 - candidates of historical sciences, 1 - candidate of pedagogical sciences.
According to the curricula of the University the department teaches special physical training for higher education applicants of the I-IV courses and master's students, which significantly helps to increase the level of general and special physical training of future law enforcement officers, skillfully apply physical measures, methods of self-defense and dogfights in extreme situations, to form the ability to withstand significant physical and psychological stress during the performance of official duties in the maintenance of public order and fighting against crime.
Physical culture and sports activities at the department are implemented by involving cadets, students and employees in the participation in the competitions of various levels: championships of the Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, championships of the Lviv regional organization of physical culture and sports society "Dynamo", championships of the physical culture and sports society "Dynamo" of Ukraine and international sport tournaments.
In accordance with the work schedule of the department there are five sports sections, namely:
- sambo wrestling
- weightlifting
- athletics (athletics cross)
- football
- kickboxing
The scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Special Physical Training provides the educational process at the faculties of the Institute for training specialists for the units of the National Police, using the following material base:
- sports complex is in the educational and training department "Vereshchytsia" (gyms, stadium with treadmills and jumping pit, playgrounds, special and general obstacle courses);
- gyms are on the territory of the university at 26, Horodotska Street and 9, Zamarstynivska Street, a stadium with treadmills, playgrounds, gyms are on the territory of the university at 1, Kryvonosa Street.
