By Order No. 43 of April 30, 1994, the cycle of criminal procedure and criminology was renamed the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminology. Militia Colonel V.O. Tsybochkin was appointed the head of the department. The department consists of 10 people. The subject section on criminology was headed by the senior teacher, lieutenant colonel of militia Shchetinin V.D. which structure included the senior teacher lieutenant colonel of militia Feskov M.M, teachers- the major of militia Lazor Y.I., the major of militia Bury O.A., the chief of an office the major militia Struk V.A. The subject section on criminal proceedings was headed by the major of militia, the senior teacher Ustyugova O.E., which included the teacher the lieutenant colonel of militia of internal service Shcherbik E.A., the teacher, the senior lieutenant of militia Baklykov O.E. From 1995 to 1997 the department was replenished with young teachers: police captain Sergienko LO, police major Sas V.A., and Art. lieutenant of militia Khmelovskaya N.Z., who conducted classes on criminal procedure: major of militia, teacher Vorobyov V.Ya. conducted classes in criminology.
In 1998, the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminology was headed by Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Colonel of Police O.M. Gumin, in 2003 the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminology was divided into two independent structural units: the Department of Criminal Procedure headed by Associate Professor Colonel of Police Humin O.M., Department of Criminology, Forensic Medicine and Psychiatry headed by Professor, Colonel of Police Sibirna R.I. Since October 2006, the Department of Criminal Procedure was headed by Candidate of Law, Police major Blaguta R.I.. In July 2008, the departments were reorganized into the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminology of the Faculty of Training of Investigators by merging the Department of Criminal Procedure and the Department of Criminology, Forensic Medicine and Psychiatry, the department was headed by the Candidate of Law, the lieutenant colonel of militia Blaguta R.I. In April, 2015, A.Ya. Khytra, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Police Lieutenant Colonel, was appointed as the Head of the Department.
In September 2015, the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminology was divided into two independent structural units: the Department of Criminal Procedure and the Department of Criminology, Forensic Medicine and Psychiatry. In November 2018, in connection with the organizational and staffing changes, the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminology was established, the Candidate of Law, Associate professor Khytra A.Ya. was appointed as the head of the department. According to the curriculum at the department, the profile disciplines are criminal procedure and criminology.

The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department conducts various types of methodical and research work. In particular, a number of monographs, textbooks, lecture courses, methodological materials to ensure the educational process and recommendations to practical units of the National Police have been published. Cooperation is carried out with the Lviv Research Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Investigative Department of the region, higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Research work is carried out within the framework of the research topic defined at the faculty №1. The department has a cadet scientific circle, in which 10-15 cadets work every academic year. The participants of the circle under the guidance of teachers of the department work on the study of current issues and have certain achievements: publications, prizes at university and national scientific events.
