On the Day of Commemoration and Victory over Nazism, Lviv State University of Internal Affairs hosted an event with the participation of veterans of the russian-Ukrainian war.
The participants honoured the memory of all those who died in the Second World War, as well as the defenders who died in the fight against the russian aggressor.
A veteran of the current war, Senior Sergeant of the KORD Special Police Rifle Battalion, Nazar Didyk, addressed the audience.
"For me, the war has been going on for a long time — since the struggle for the rebirth of Ukraine in 1917-1922, since the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army. And today we are once again forced to defend our land. We have no right to forget the price we pay for freedom, " said Nazar Didyk.
Police Colonel Dmytro Shvets, Rector of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, emphasised: "Today we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism. This date is a reminder of the heroic past and the current struggle for our freedom. We remember, honour and continue to defend the independence of our country together."
The commemoration of the fallen ended with a symbolic flash mob, during which the song „Oh, there is a red viburnum in the meadow" was played.
The head of the university, Dmytro Shvets, also joined the event to commemorate the victims of Nazism in Lviv today. Flowers were laid at the memorial cross on the territory of the former Stalag-328 concentration camp for prisoners of war and an ecumenical memorial service was held.
On the same day, representatives of the Council of Cadet and Student Self-Government of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs laid flowers at the monument to the „Fighters for the Freedom of Ukraine" in Lviv.
