International experts share their experience with LvSUIA cadets

This time, the representative of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine held a webinar on topic of illegal trafficking of firearms. Senior Adviser on Criminal Investigations Christian Lippmann was the speaker of the event.

Addressing the audience, he emphasized that such a problem as the illegal trafficking of firearms is common in the world. However, the highest rates are observed in the areas of armed conflicts. Therefore, the priority task for law enforcement officers is to regulate legal relations in this area and prevent such a phenomenon.

Ukraine's membership in the EU imposes on it a number of obligations, including the implementation of directives and other EUregulatory acts into national legislation. One of them concerns combating illegal trafficking of firearms. This document establishes standards for the handling of weapons and regulates issues of its issuance and accounting.

Christian Lippmann emphasized the importance of reducing the number of illegal and unregistered weapons in Ukraine. He also emphasized the need to teach gun owners how to handle them correctly. In addition, he focused on preventing cases of violence and strengthening the protection of vulnerable population groups.

According to the speaker, the key role in achieving these goals is played by the National Police, because it must prervent illegal trafficking of firearms and minimize the risks connected with its use.
