Presentation Guidelines for integration of gender approaches into the training system for security and defense sector of Ukraine took place online. Event was attended by heads of higher education institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, members of academic councils and the author's team, which prepared recommendations.

Lviv State University of Internal Affairs was represented by the Head of the university Roman BLAHUTA, Vice-Rectors Olha BALYNSKA and Vasyl FRANCHUK, Director of Institute for Training of Specialists for National Police Units Yuriy NAZAR, Commisioner for Gender Iryna YEVHUTYCH, deans of university departments and others.

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha STEFANISHYNA addressed an audience with an introductory speech. “We are all aware that issue of equal access to professions, including the professional development of both women and men, is a systemic problem that needs to be reflected in all elements of the training of security and defense personnel. Activity of scientists and educators to unify approaches to teaching gender issues in higher education institutions is also very important. In addition, issues of equality between men and women are reflected in the annual national programs under the auspices of the NATO-Ukraine Commission.”

Olha STEFANISHYNA stressed that developed methodological recommendations are unique and are based on the experience of our country.

It should be noted that after the development of the draft Methodological Recommendations, LvSUIA Academic Council supported their usage in educational process.

EUAM provided the university with modern equipment for teaching

Equipment provided by European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine includes an interactive mobile board with a modular computer and video communication system, and uninterruptible power supply. Technical equipment will be used for training of students of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs.

Equipment will be useful during trainings, conferences, seminars, round tables and other events.

LvSUIA Rector Roman BLAHUTA during the official transfer of equipment thanked the Mission representatives for their support and assistance. He noted that the EUAM is a long-term partner of the university, and the Mission's specialists have been promoting development of educational process in universities for years.

Senior General Police Adviser at the EUAM Regional Office in Lviv Marek DZIERZEGA expressed hope that during coronavirus pandemic new equipment would improve the university's learning capacity and help organize distance learning for students.

Lviv State University of Internal Affairs hosted a scientific-practical conference “Information Technology in Education and Practice”. Event was held via online platform Zoom. Scientists, educators and employees of practical police units from Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Dnipro and Zaporizhia joined the discussion.

Participants were greeted by LvSUIA Vice-Rector Olha BALYNSKA. “Information technology evolves rapidly, so the topic we will discuss today is extremely important and relevant. We have traditionally chosen two areas for discussion - usage of information technology in education and in practice”. She wished the participants to have an interesting and fruitful discussion.

Vice-Rector of the university Oleh SHINKARUK noted that for many years this conference brings together scientists, educators and practitioners to discuss the development of modern information technologies, as well as gives an opportunity for their implementation in the practice of National Police of Ukraine. “Modern work of most structural units of the police is closely connected with the extensive use of the functionality of information systems, databases, Internet resources. This requires specific education to form appropriate information and computer competencies for future police officers”.

Various aspects of the use of information technology in the field of training of law enforcement officers and their practical activities, usage of special equipment and software in police practical work were discussed during the scientific event. In addition, the participants discussed prospects for the development of information support for police operational units activities.

Plenary session was moderated by LvSUIA Vice-Rector Olha BALYNSKA. Participants of the conference shared their views on the prospects for the development of information support of National Police of Ukraine. In addition, during the event they discussed the use of information technology in the context of investigator's interaction with operational units.

Representatives of Main Investigation Department of National Police of Ukraine, Criminal Analysis Department of the NPU, Information and Analytical Support Department of Lviv Region Police, Organizational-Analytical Support and Response Department and Regional Patrol Police Department, scientists from departmental institutions of higher education from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Odessa, as well as representatives of Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Academy of Land Forces, Ivan Franko Lviv National University of Lviv, National Forestry University, Lviv State University of Life Safety, National University “Lviv Polytechnic”, Lviv Academy of Arts and Zaporizhia National University participated in the scientific-practical conference.

 

On the eve of St. Nicholas Day, Rector of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs Roman BLAHUTA met with the students of the university who need parental support and care. Head of the university congratulated boys and girls on the upcoming New Year and Christmas holidays, and also handed over gifts from Nicholas.

Roman BLAHUTA wished the youth not to lose faith in miracles, to be healthy and happy, to successfully complete their studies and to realize themselves in their future profession. “Always remember that doing good things is the most precious gift”.

Financial assistance for those students who most need support and care has been traditionally provided by LvSUIA Union. This year such help was received by 25 cadets and students.

LvSUIA cadets visited SRFC

Practical lesson for cadets of Faculty №1 took place at Lviv Scientific and Research Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. During the lesson cadets got acquainted with the work of forensic experts.

Employees of the institution focused most on forensic research: Weapons Research Sector forensic experts conducted a master class using modern equipment and showed how to search for identification marks on bullets and shell casings; in addition, they explained how to operate such information and how to determine from which weapon the shot was fired.

LvSUIA cadets were especially interested in the sectors of handwriting research, technical research of documents and accounting. They were told about how fraudsters counterfeit banknotes. Cadets actively asked questions and received qualified answers.

Practical lesson for cadets of Faculty №1 took place at Lviv Scientific and Research Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. During the lesson cadets got acquainted with the work of forensic experts.

Meeting of LvSUIA Young Scientists Society

Meeting of the Scientific Society of students (cadets, students), graduate students (adjuncts), doctoral students and young scientists took place remotely at Lviv State University of Internal Affairs.

Oksana ONYSHKO, Associate Professor of Theory and History of State and Law, Constitutional and International Law, presented her report “Gender equality: national and international standards”. Iryna YEVKHUTYCH, LvSUIA Gender Commissioner for Gender Issues also spoke on the topic “Gender-based violence in conditions of Covid pandemic”.

After that LvSUIA students presented their scientific works.

At the end of the meeting participants discussed some organizational issues.

Defense of the dissertation for Doctor of Philosophy degree in Management and Administration specialty Management took place yesterday at Lviv State University of Internal Affairs.

Lilia Kukharska, a graduate student of LvSUIA Department of Management presented her scientific work at the discretion of Specialized Academic Council. Topic of the research is “Service quality management in the system of economic security of higher education institutions of Ukraine. Supervisor - Doctor of Economics, Professor, Professor of Management at Lviv State University of Internal Affairs Zinaida ZHYVKO.

Official opponents were: Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of Department of Financial and Economic Security, Accounting and Auditing at Kharkiv O.M. Beketov National University of Municipal Economy Tetyana MOMOT and Doctor of Economics, Professor, Professor of Management and Economic Security Cherkasy Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University Natalia ZACHOSOVA.

Presented scientific work became a subject of lively discussions and debates. Specialized Academic Council based on the results of the defense decided to award Lilia KUKHARSKA Doctor of Philosophy degree in Management and Administration specialty Management.

All-Ukrainian scientific-practical conference on Theoretical and applied programs of legal regulation in Ukraine took place at Lviv State University of Internal Affairs. Event was held online and gathered together government officials, representatives of law enforcement and human rights organizations, higher education institutions and NGOs.

LvSUIA Rector Roman BLAHUTA made a welcoming speech. Are we all right in the context of legal regulation of various spheres of public life? Obviously not. Will this conference solve the problematic issues at once? It is unlikely, but it will provide an opportunity to join the discussion of important issues: reform of the legal system, prosecutor's office, administrative and legal reform, and so on. In addition, issues of legal regulation of law enforcement agencies remains relevant for us.

Dean of Faculty of Law Ivan KRASNYTSKY also greeted an audience. Conference participants actively discussed various aspects of its topic. Main focus during the conference was on national mechanisms for implementing Ukraine's European integration strategy, administrative and legal means of ensuring law & order, and various financial & legal mechanisms. Peculiarities of the classification of labor disputes, criminal liability for sexual intercourse using minors, development of legal support for academic integrity in the field of education management were also discussed.

All articles of the conference will be included in the conference proceedings edition.

EUAM representative told LvSUIA students about social identity

Lviv State University of Internal Affairs hosted a webinar for students of Faculties №1, №2 and №3 on “Social Identity. Crowd psychology. Principles of de-escalation”. Event was organized by Department of Education and Practical Training in conjunction with European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) as part of international campaign 16 Days Against Violence”.

Danish police officer and part-time Public Order Adviser-trainer at EUAM Regional Office in Lviv Stig HEIDEMANN was a guest speaker. With more than thirty years of experience in the police, he stressed that understanding the topic of the webinar is very important for quality work in this profession.

Webinar was divided into three thematic parts. During the first block, participants discussed various aspects of functioning of individual in society and the theory of social identity, during the second – considered examples of how a person acts as part of a large group of people, interacts with others and how the crowd responds to stimuli. During the third part, webinar participants received practical advices on how to resolve or prevent a conflict.

LvSUIA expands the range of foreign partners

International conference Global Challenges and Threats to National Economies in Our Time organized by Lviv State University of Internal Affairs together with scientific institutions of India, Brazil and the Greater Mekong has been finished.

LvSUIA Vice-rector Olha BALYNSKA thanked foreign colleagues for invitation to cooperation, briefly described the peculiarities of LvSUIA educational process, emphasizing that in addition to professional skills, we form a student’s safe culture.

Security in modern world is becoming one of the most important issues: it doesnt matter whether it is the security of person or the state, economic, informational, psychological, military or other security. Socio-economic and political-legal changes affect the level of security of every modern state, and all these changes are due to the dynamic trend towards globalization. Main task of today's conference, obviously, is to form a balanced and consistent approach to counteracting and minimizing the negative impact of globalization, and on this basis to help our countries develop and implement a comprehensive state security policy based on openness and systematics. I hope that today we will outline the path that will lead us to harmonization, said Olha BALYNSKA and wished that this virtual meeting at a great distance would unite everyone for further real close cooperation.

This conference brought together thematic discussions by scholars from Brazil, Thailand, Cambodia, India, Oman and the Mekong.

At the event Ukraine was represented by National University Lviv Polytechnic, Lviv State University of Life Safety, Uzhhorod National University, Cherkasy Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University, Kharkiv National University of Public Utilities, Lviv Agrarian University, Lviv University of Management.

LvSUIA scientific & pedagogical staff were direct participants of the conference among almost a hundred scientists, educators and administrators, namely: Vice-rector Professor Vasyl FRANCHUK, Professor Halyna MYSKIV, Professor Marta KOPYTKO, Professor Halyna LEVKIV, Associate Professor Olha MARCHENKO, Associate Professor Halyna LESKIV, Associate Professor Inna VYSOTSKA and others.

It should be noted that the main initiator of this event on behalf of LvSUIA was Professor of Department of Management of Faculty of Economic Security and Management Zinaida ZHIVKO. Lilia KUKHARSKA acted as the organizational secretary (or rather the translator).
