An international online seminar on the development of a training course on radiation safety was held in Lviv

Virtual international seminar on the basis of Lviv State University of Internal Affairs was held to develop a training course on police response to the threat of theft of ionizing radiation sources during its usage, storage or transportation. The event was held for five days as part of a joint project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Radiological Security Department of the US Department of Energy. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, which provides the development of the course, as well as four basic institutions of higher education with specific learning conditions attended the event.

After the seminar, all participants received certificates, which were solemnly presented by Deputy Head of the Directorate for Strategic Planning and European Integration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Hennadiy Honcharuk and LvSUIA Rector Roman Blahuta.

After development, this training course is planned to be introduced into basic training for all police officers in Ukraine.

Police officers will be able to gain basic knowledge of radiation safety, learn about the peculiarities of responding to incidents involving the theft of ionizing radiation sources and will be able to protect themselves and others in case of emergency.

The preparatory stage of the training course development, which took place in Kharkiv and Lviv, has now been completed.
