Lviv State University of Internal Affairs hosted a webinar onPolice-Community Interaction - Building Trust. Jan DANCO and Felix GAUTSCH, advisers-trainers of the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine, told the cadets about practical tools that can increase the level of public confidence in the police.

During the seminar, speakers focused on what trust is and provided specific advice on police communication with citizens. When people trust you, they feel more comfortable in your presence. It is very important for law enforcement officers to gain such trust, because the police cannot exist without the approval of the community, ” Jan DANCO said during the webinar. He also introduced the cadets to 9 principles of Robert PEEL, British policeman who worked on the implementation of the idea of cooperation between law enforcement and citizens.

After that, Felix GAUTSCH presented a scheme in the form of a pyramid, which consists of steps that are important in building relationships with the community.

EUAM representatives also acquainted the cadets with many nuances of community policing. For example, they explained that the police must respond to the needs of the community, work together with residents to prevent crime.
